A Poured Floor With Depth
Metallic epoxy floors are the most decorative system we install in Naples. Instead of a uniform color or a chip pattern, a metallic epoxy floor uses fine pearlescent pigments suspended in a clear or tinted resin. While the resin is still liquid, we move it with rollers, brushes, sprayers and solvent to create swirls, veining and soft clouds of color. The pigments catch light at different angles, so the floor seems to shift as you walk across it. No two floors look exactly alike.
Where a metallic floor makes sense
This is a look-first finish, and it belongs indoors, out of direct sun. Common uses include:
- Home bars, game rooms and entertainment spaces
- Converted garages used as a gym, office or studio
- Bonus rooms and enclosed areas on a concrete slab
- Retail counters, salons and small offices that want a distinctive floor
- Feature areas inside a larger garage, such as a car display bay
We generally steer metallics away from open lanais and pool decks, because sunlight and standard epoxy do not mix well over time.
Sun and color stability
Standard epoxy gets only a poor to fair UV rating from HomeGuide. A metallic floor is mostly epoxy, so in a room with large west-facing sliders or a garage with the door often open, the finish can amber or shift in color over the years. We handle that two ways: by choosing where metallics go, and by sealing them with a UV-stable clear topcoat when a room gets real daylight. During the estimate we look at windows and door orientation and tell you honestly how the floor is likely to age.
The slab has to be right
Metallic epoxy is a thin, glossy, highly reflective finish, and that makes it unforgiving. Every crack, patch, trowel mark and low spot under it can show through. Point2Homes' summary of Census survey data dates the median Naples home to 1983, and older slabs often carry old adhesive, tile mortar, paint or patches from past remodels. We grind the slab flat, fill cracks and joints, and often apply a skim or primer coat to give the metallic layer an even base. If you are removing tile or carpet to expose the slab, we can tell you what we find under it and what it will take to make it ready.
Moisture is a bigger risk indoors
Interior slabs in Florida homes usually sit on a vapor barrier, but older slabs and additions may not have one, and humid summers can push vapor through concrete. Trapped moisture under a metallic finish can cause blisters or cloudy areas that are hard to repair without redoing the room. Every slab gets a moisture test ahead of the quote, and a high reading means a moisture-tolerant primer goes on first.
Designing the look
Metallic finishes range from subtle, single-color pearl floors to bold, high-contrast marble looks with two or three colors. We will talk through the room's light, wall colors, furniture and how much movement you want. Sample boards help, but the final pattern is made by hand on your floor, so we agree on a direction and a color palette rather than an exact copy of a photo.
Metallic floors in converted garages
Naples has many homes where the garage has become something else: a home gym, a hobby room, a guest space or a place to show off a car. Those rooms are good candidates for a metallic epoxy floor, as long as they get limited direct sun. If the garage door still opens often, we usually suggest a UV-stable clear coat and a satin finish. If the room has become fully interior, with the door sealed or replaced by a wall, a standard metallic system with a protective topcoat works well.
Living with a metallic floor
The gloss that makes a metallic floor striking also shows fine scratches and dust more than a chip floor does. Use felt pads under furniture, mats at entry doors to catch sand, and a soft dust mop. A satin topcoat and an anti-slip additive can reduce glare and add grip in rooms where floors may get wet, such as a home bar or a room off the pool.
Commercial uses
Salons, boutiques, galleries, offices and car or boat dealers sometimes want a floor that customers notice. A metallic finish can carry brand colors and gives a seamless surface that is easy to mop. For businesses we plan the work around opening hours and explain cure times in writing, since a metallic floor usually needs more time than a polyaspartic one before foot traffic returns.
How long a metallic floor lasts
HomeGuide lists solid epoxy floors at about 10 to 20 years of service, against only 3 to 5 for water-based products. A metallic floor uses the same solid resin family, so its life depends mostly on prep, the topcoat and how the room is used. A protective clear coat can be refreshed over time to restore the shine without repouring the metallic layer.
Metallic Floor Options
Each metallic floor is built in layers, and the finish can be tuned for light, wear and grip.
Single-tone pearl
One metallic color for a calm, polished look with soft movement.
Multi-color marble
Two or three colors worked together into veining and swirls.
Slab leveling and skim coat
Grinding and a smoothing coat so cracks and patches do not show through.
UV-stable clear topcoat
Added for rooms with real daylight to slow color shift.
Satin or gloss finish
A choice between high shine and a softer, lower-glare surface.
Anti-slip additive
Fine texture for bars, kitchens and rooms near the pool.

How We Pour a Metallic Floor
1. Plan the look
We review the room's light and use, show samples and test the slab for moisture.
2. Grind and level
The slab is ground flat, cracks are filled and a primer or skim coat is applied.
3. Base color
A tinted base coat sets the background tone.
4. Metallic pour
We pour the metallic resin and shape it by hand into the pattern you chose.
5. Topcoat and cure
A clear protective coat goes on, and you get times for walking on the floor and moving furniture back.

Metallic Epoxy Floors Questions
What price range should I expect for a metallic epoxy floor?
Metallic epoxy runs about $5 to $12 per square foot nationally, according to This Old House. Slab leveling, removing old flooring and multi-color designs push a project toward the higher end. Once we have seen the room, you get our price in writing.
Is a garage a good spot for a metallic epoxy floor?
It can be, but it is a look-first finish. Scratches and dust show on it more readily than on a chip floor, and it needs a UV-stable topcoat where daylight reaches. Many people choose it for a garage converted into a gym, studio or display space.
Will metallic epoxy work on top of existing tile?
We do not recommend it. Grout lines and any loose tile tend to show through or fail. We remove the tile, grind the slab and coat the concrete.
Is a metallic floor slippery?
High gloss can be slick when wet. A satin topcoat and an anti-slip additive add grip in rooms like home bars or spaces off the pool.
